I both lectured Alastair and supervised his MSc project. His MSc programme covered a wide range of topics, including Digital Music Production, Sound Post-Production (sound design and remixing), and Advanced Digital Recording. During his course he demonstrated an incisive perception and unerring ability in both understanding and application. His MSc project achieved a Distinction grade, entirely warranted through is work ethic, intelligence, and creative application of modern technology. His general course work also indicated a strong musical ability, with innate talent for music production. Alastair's work was clearly articulated, in both his reports and seminars, demonstrating a key ability to communicate his ideas (and help others understand).
I give Alastair my highest recommendation, without hesitation, especially if one is considering studying music production.

Alastair is an extremely committed and conscientious individual who has been an asset to the music department in Stanwell School. He assumes responsibility for all day to day technological issues, as well as extra-curricular demands, which require him to apply his knowledge and experience in terms of sound technology, recording and the broader theatrical requirements of stage lighting and set.
He supports the music teaching in terms of recording pieces of work, but has also made an invaluable contribution during the composition lessons, involving pupils throughout the age range from 11 – 18 years old. He takes charge of some group tasks and training, and this includes the use of such programs as Cubase and Reason, as well as organising the school recording studio. In addition, he runs after-school workshops for pupils who are interested in furthering their technological understanding. I know that the pupils hold him in very high regard and find his friendly assistance invaluable. To support his teaching and the pupils’ learning, he has produced detailed supportive documentation which has been of excellent quality.
He is a willing and supportive colleague, clearly knowledgeable in his chosen field and very willing to take on new challenges. I am happy to recommend him without reservation.

I think that Alastair's lessons are really fun, he helps us whenever we are in need. He makes it really cool as he is laid back. He has taught us to do many different things on Reason which helps us with our songs. The way he teaches makes it stick in our minds so we don't forget. I look forward to music tech every week and because of Alastair, I am going to continue next year.

I have been learning Music technology for the past 2 years with 2 different teachers who have very different teaching styles. I have found that Alastair's teaching style is very straight-forward, without confusing us with un-necessary jargon. He does a lot to improve our knowledge and understanding of a certain genre, by giving us examples of different styles of music to try out. With Alastair I have found that I have a broader understanding of not just how to use a program, but how it works as well. I am now confident with making my own music at home and have been inspired to be involved in a career in this area in the future.

I really enjoy Music Tech and only have been learning for a year. I've had a bit of experience before hand but now I have come to Alastair's lessons I have learnt so much more! He is a really good teacher. He always gives you a hand when you are stuck and gives you loads of ideas which you can edit by using the knowledge you have learnt in his handouts. I hope I can use more advanced music technology in the near future! I will take away what I have learnt and use it in the Future! I would recommend Alastair's lessons to anyone!!
