Key Stage 1 Music Production Workshop
Learn to produce digital music in our half day workshop
Introduce your primary school class to the exciting world of digital music production with our half day workshop, a fun and educational program designed for pupils aged 5-7 years.
From Beginner to music maker
During the school day, young learners will explore the fundamentals of creating original music using GarageBand, a popular entry-level digital music workstation designed for accessible learning. Guided by an experienced tutor, each pupil will have the opportunity to create, perform, and develop their own piece of music through guided activities and creative exploration. Pupils will experiment with rhythm, melody, and sound using built-in instruments, building confidence as they bring their musical ideas together. Essential skills will be introduced in an age-appropriate way, including live performance, simple recording, sound layering, basic editing, and safe digital saving of their work.
Half day course overview
-
In this workshop, pupils will be introduced to GarageBand, a widely used digital music creation platform suitable for classroom learning. They will explore the core functions of the software and gain an understanding of how digital tools are used to create music. Through structured, hands-on activities, pupils will begin to develop an awareness of key musical elements such as rhythm, tempo, and melody, providing a strong foundation for further musical exploration.
-
Throughout the workshop, pupils will engage with GarageBand’s smart instruments to create drum patterns, basslines, and melodic parts. These activities are designed to be accessible to learners of all abilities, requiring no prior musical experience. Pupils will learn how musical parts are created, organised, and developed within a digital environment, supporting the development of listening skills, creativity, and digital confidence.
-
As their compositions progress, pupils will be introduced to the concepts of musical arrangement and structure. They will explore how different musical sections fit together and how simple mixing techniques can enhance clarity and balance. This stage of the workshop encourages careful listening, evaluation, and decision-making, helping pupils refine their work while gaining insight into the music production process.
-
By the end of the workshop, each pupil will have completed an original piece of music and learned how to export their work as a finished audio file. This final stage reinforces a sense of achievement and ownership, while supporting curriculum objectives related to creativity, digital literacy, and expressive skills. The workshop provides schools with a structured and engaging introduction to contemporary music production using accessible technology.
Certificate of completion
By the end of the workshop, every child will complete their own piece of music using GarageBand and receive an e-certificate to celebrate their achievement. This recognises their introduction to digital music-making and the skills they have developed in creating, arranging, and refining sound. The certificate provides a positive sense of accomplishment and encourages confidence, creativity, and enthusiasm for music and technology at an early stage of learning.
Safety First
All of our tutors have an up to date First Aid certificate, enhanced DBS and have completed a mandatory child safeguard course.
